A Kalinax case study
PROBLEM AND SCOPE
One of our clients from the automobile manufacturing industry reached out to us with a request to build an automated multi-layer dashboard to enable them to better manage their distribution network - transfer good practices from well-performing outlets, and address issues in less successful outlets. The scope of the pilot project was the post-crisis Greek market. The products of our work: enhanced reporting, dashboards, KPI definition and automation, predictive models.
DATA SOURCING/ DATA MINING
Governments and local authorities keep a public record of all newly-registered vehicles which provides excellent base for data-driven decisions and granular analysis of the numbers of the national market. New car sales are also related to the economic conditions in a country/ region, which allows us to:
1) understand when an outlet's under-performance is (partly) related to the local economy.
2) make predictions on future sales based on macro-economic indicators.
KNOWING THE BUSINESS
Our dedicated account manager and data consultants studied the organizational structure of the client, their priorities, strategies, vision and objectives. As this project related to geographies where we hadn't worked before, we had to become comfortable with, for example, Greek regions, towns and islands. Furthermore, we aligned our car knowledge with the client's terminology - models, cc, fuel types etc. These would be the criteria for the products of our work.
VISUALIZATION
Our next step was to design the dashboards. Due to the huge amount of detail and analysis, we adopted a global to granular approach, meaning that the top left corner presented overall numbers (little to none selective criteria) while the bottom right corner presented in-depth analysis (multiple selective criteria).

The dashboard has been in operations for 2 years now, without failing to deliver what it was built for - reliable information for management to base their informed decisions on.
Delta Analysis & RankingWhen we analyze sales (or similarly structured data), a delta analysis underlines exactly what the client was looking for - the difference in proportional share between two time periods. These insights could remain unnoticed if presented in absolute numbers or volume.

Predictive & IntelligenceWe studied how various macro-economic factors (e.g. unemployment, GBP growth, inflation) affect the automotive market. We then built in some intelligence to help the business make more accurate projections and data-driven decisions.

Full customizationEvery stakeholder needs to see the information from a different angle to make an informed decision. We fully customized our dashboards to make them suitable for each key stakeholder, navigating their understanding of the data as well.
